As Cap said at the end of Age Of Ultron, the New Avengers need some work: his assessment that they're not "the '27 Yankees" is typically downplayed, and the idea of the fledgling team struggling to adapt to their new responsibilities and dynamic. Feige seemed to hint in an interview with Collider that the team are actually set to be tested, with the suggestion being that they won't come out of it particularly well:
And also the subtext was, what does Cap say, Theyre not the 27 Yankeeswell if Captain Marvel is there, what are we saying about her? It needed to be certainly Wanda and Vision, I think to a lesser extent Falcon and Rhodey need to learn what it means to be a team, even the most dysfunctional team in history.
"The most dysfunctional team in history" is a pretty stark assessment of any superhero group, and you have to suspect that their actions at the outset of the film are going to have some catastrophic results. That would fit with the idea that it's their behaviour in taking down Crossbones in Nigeria that lead to the expedition of the Sokovia Accords (and the reason Cap ends up making an assault on Crossbones' position alone in the trailer). It's going to be intriguing to see how they've earned that label from Feige. Are you excited to see Captain America: Civil War? Share your assessment below in the comments thread.
