7. Chewie

The stand-out star of Captain Marvel's marketing so far - and the other ingenious, out-of-left-field advertising element of the campaign - has been Goose the cat, who is so important to Marvel that they gave him his own character poster. Again, it was an inspired viral marketing approach.

Goose is also a character who has been around in the comics since debuting back in 2006 in Giant-Size Ms. Marvel #1 with a different name and as a girl cat. Back then, she was called Chewie - and like Goose was named after a famous movie sidekick (from Star Wars rather than Top Gun, obviously) - and was revealed to be an alien (from the Flerken species), just as the movie version is said to be.

The original cat gets a nod in a messageboard username, CHEWIEROX, and the simple "MEOW" message appears to suggest she posted it herself.
