Cheese And Crust! Hocus Pocus 2 Actually IS In Development

Another virgin's going to light a candle...

Almost every year around about Halloween time, the Internet is flooded with rumours that there's going to be a long-awaited Hocus Pocus sequel. Previously, lots of people have been duped with fake posters (with the same one appearing several different years and still managing to convince some), and it would be easy now to just accept that it's never going to happen.

Or it would be if not for Hocus Pocus writer Mick Garris, who has discussed the possibility of a sequel again, and seemingly confirmed to Forbes that he knows it's in development. He also says it's likely to be made-for-TV:

“Generation after generation, it’s kind of remarkable and fantastic to have something brought to the screen like that and to have it embraced generation after generation. Everybody I meet, it’s either their daughters or their own favorite movie and it’s incredibly exciting.
There have been rumors of a Hocus Pocus sequel for the last 10 years that will not die. I have heard they are developing the script, I haven’t been involved in it but I think there will be a sequel it might be for Disney Channel or Freeform or ABC. I think it will be for television but I hear that it is moving ahead.”

Even with the film potentially being made for TV, Garris seems to believe the original cast would return:

“I think they are, yeah, I think they are. If they don’t do that I think it would be a big mistake because all three of them are still so incredibly potent and powerful and great performers and who else can recreate those characters?”

Previously, Bette Midler said during a Reddit AMA that she’s ready to make the sequel and so are Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. So that's a big step forward. She also said there was only one way to get it done:

"You have to go to send in your cards to the Walt Disney company. The ball’s in their court.”

Hopefully, they'll pay attention, and hopefully, if they do make it for TV, it won't leave out the key stars to save costs.
