Chevy Chase: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

3. Ty Webb €“ Caddyshack (1980)

The original Saturday Night Live movie was a springboard not only for Chase to move onto bigger things, but a whole cavalcade of future comedy stars. Directed by Harold Ramis, who would go on to star as Egon in Ghostbusters and helm Groundhog Day, the golf course farce stars Chase alongside Bill Murray in one of his first screen turns €“ before the pair got into a fist fight backstage at SNL, supposedly. Caddyshack is mainly Michael O'Keefe's film, with him leading the pack as the student working his way through college by working at a local golf club. For the most part it's a sharp satire of the eighties nouveau riche pack, with veteran comic Rodney Dangerfield as the obnoxious arse who makes his life a living hell. Chase, meanwhile, somewhat steals the show as talented putter Ty Webb, son of one of the golf club's owners and a permanently laid-back figure. The lackadaisical attitude makes it all the more impressive that Chase shines above the rest of the entertaining ridiculousness.
