Chris Columbus pitches a new take for RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT!

Variety say Chris Columbus (HARRY POTTER 1 and 2) has pitched a whole new concept and direction for a movie based on the wonderful museum of bizarre and strange artifacts, RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT, at Paramount. The original crack at the film broke down last year when star Jim Carrey and director Tim Burton couldn't see eye to eye on the creative aspects of the film just months before shooting was to begin in China. Burton has gone but Carrey is still attached to play newspaper columnist/explorer Robert Ripley... though the China setting has been dropped. Talks are expected to go well... Paramount will soon find a screenwriter to come up with a draft and a 2011 release is planned, with the hope it could turn into a franchise.
