Chris Nolan's 2017 Mystery Film Is Dunkirk

Chris Nolan's mystery summer 2017 project will be his first war movie... and it feels, well, rather Spielbergian of him. Warner Bros announced today that Nolan will direct Dunkirk, an epic cinematic re-telling of the legendary World War II evacuation of over 300,000 trapped soldiers who were about to become canon fodder to the ruthless Nazis that were taking over France. Nolan has wrote the original screenplay himself and is planing on a "large scale film" (did they really need to put that in the press release with this director?) that will shoot on both IMAX 6mm and 655 large format film for the biggest quality and high impact immersion. Apparently, it's Nolan's intention to use mostly unknowns in the lead roles but the wider ensemble will feature familiar names with Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy and Mark Rylance all said to be in talks for supporting roles. It's not yet revealed exactly where the focus point of the movie will be but it seems a fair bet it'll be on the 40,000 French soldiers at the Siege of Lille that fought three formidable German divisions as a delaying manoeuvre for the evacuation with the English supporting roles surrounding the actual plotting and execution of the ambitious Operation Dynamo plan. Filming will begin in May, using many of the real-life locations with a July 21st, 2017 release date set in stone.
