Christopher Lee's 10 Best Performances

7. Dr. Charles Marlow / Edward Blake

I, MONSTER (1971) Amicus, fellow Brit studio Hammer€™s biggest rival during the 60s and 70s, produced a number of successful horror vehicles for Lee and his popular co-star Peter Cushing. In this feature, the oft-told tale of Jekyll and Hyde is adapted to showcase Lee€™s abilities to successfully display his duality as an actor. He gives a suitably excitable performance as the obsessive scientist, Marlowe, contrasting brilliantly with his monstrous performance as the psychopathic Blake. Similarly, Lee€™s performance as the ambitious and recalcitrant Marlowe contrasts well with Cushing€™s more cautious and incredulous scientist. Very much a successful role for Lee because of this pairing, it€™s not his best but it€™s an interesting watch nonetheless.
