Weeks after stating he was "cured" of the desire to helm a Star Wars or comic book movie, it now looks as though Mission: Impossible - Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie has come around on the idea once more - at least in the latter's case.

The filmmaker has long been on fans' shortlists of directors for a possible sequel to Man of Steel, owing to the success of his Mission: Impossible films as well as the fact he's frequently collaborated with Warner Bros.' current Superman, Henry Cavill. Those shortlists were dashed in the wake of McQuarrie's earlier comments, but now - in an interview with Screen Rant - it looks as though he could be warming to the idea once more.

When queried on rumours that he'd be helming the Man of Steel sequel, McQuarrie said that he's "interested in a good story," and that he'd jump at the chance to collaborate with Cavill whatever the context.

"That's really what it is. I mean, when Man of Steel came up, it was because somebody had asked me, did I want to work with Henry again? Which I would in a second. I go through the door that opens."

Perhaps more interesting, however, was his answer to the outlet's follow-up question. Tom Cruise had at one time been rumoured to be in the running to play a version of Green Lantern in a reboot of the series, and it's an idea fans themselves have latched onto, with fan art of the actor in the green and black bodysuit seemingly piquing the interest of GL's most ardent supporters.

When asked whether or not we could ever see Cruise in the iconic emerald outfit, McQuarrie seemed to leave the door open, saying:

"You know, I got to say, Tom and I have never talked about it. We always kind of talk about what we're working on or what we're talking about working on next. I think, again, I think if you show them a good story, I think if you showed him a really emotional story, I don't think, you know, it's, I can never predict. I can never predict what it is he's going to be drawn to."

So there you have it. McQuarrie is - slowly but surely - coming around to the idea of directing a film situated in the Worlds of DC. Given the reception to Rogue Nation and Fallout, fans have cause to be excited - even if the prospect of either McQuarrie or Cruise joining the franchise is still a ways away from happening.

Would you like to see McQuarrie direct either Man of Steel 2 or Green Lantern Corps? Let us know down in the comments.
