Christopher Nolan: Ranking All 9 Of His Movies From Worst To Best

1. The Dark Knight

The Prestige Christopher Nolan
Warner Bros. Pictures

Besides being an acclaimed comic-book adaptation and action-adventure in its own right, The Dark Knight was the perfect culmination of everything Nolan had helmed up to that point.

It took elements of his previous directorial efforts - the grounded action from Batman Begins, the slick storytelling from Memento - and mashed them together in a cohesive fashion, The Dark Knight proving just as capable of providing big-screen spectacle as it is intricate character work.

But the biggest compliment you can level at The Dark Knight is that it is, stylistically, a Christopher Nolan movie. The source material never overshadows the artist, and the director's grip on proceedings is never lost throughout all the insane action, costumes and special effects.

To be able to bring that storytelling prowess from the low-budget scene and transfer it to a studio feature of this size is no small feat - and that's why The Dark Knight is Nolan's crowning achievement.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
