Christopher Walken: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

4. The Dead Zone - Johnny Smith

chris walken the dead zone Now we have perhaps one of the most underrated Stephen King adaptations. Walken plays Johnny Smith, a schoolteacher who awakens from a coma to discover that he has the psychic ability to access a person's past, present or future, just by making physical contact. The overtones of the supernatural and horror in The Dead Zone (alongside David Cronenberg's visionary direction) allow for Walken to give a performance brimming with dark intensity. We also see his talents further stretched when dealing with the emotional struggle in whether to intervene with the present to save the future and the moral implications this poses. This comes to fruition in a dramatic conclusion which sees Johnny attempting to take out a corrupt senator played by an impressive Martin Sheen. The Dead Zone is a must see for Walken fans, and also features an eclectic cast of supporting characters including Herbert Lom and Tom Skeritt, as well as chilling visuals from Cronenberg.
