Coen Brothers: Ranking Their Films From Worst To Best
15. Intolerable Cruelty (2003)
Often interchanged with The Ladykillers when discussing the distinction of Worst Coen Movie, Intolerable Cruelty pits George Clooney's womanizing Miles against Catherine Zeta-Jones's jilted Marylin in a romantic revenge comedy. It's a serviceable effort filled with standard Coen trademarks. Of particular note is a great opening sequence featuring Geoffrey Rush, as well as a line of dialogue about the colour of a salad, that's probably the most memorable quote of the entire film. Ultimately though, it's difficult to remember much from this movie, which is definitely at odds with the rest of their films. Most Coen scenes sear themselves into your head, but there are few from Intolerable Cruelty that do so.
