Fox made the shocking announcement that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting a reboot, some 21 years after the iconic show first premiered.

The interesting hook this time, however, is that the title role will be played by a black actress, and Joss Whedon will serve as executive producer while showrunning and writing duties are performed by TV vet Monica Owusu-Breen (Charmed, Alias, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

The reboot has reportedly been in the works for quite some time, and Fox ultimately left the decision with Whedon, who opted to give it the green light. Guy likes money, who knew?

There's certainly some justifiably split opinion on the reveal, especially as many fans would prefer to see a continuation reuniting the classic cast. However, it will be interesting to see how the Buffy formula is updated with a more inclusive style and a tone skewing towards the millennial set.
