Could Ben Wheatley Make A Marvel Zombies Movie?
Oh PLEASE let it happen!!!
Though it might sound a little far-fetched, there could be a possibility of a Marvel Zombies movie in the near future. Or at least that might be the case if the latest director linked to a Marvel movie gets his dream gig with the studio. That director, intriguingly, is Ben Wheatley.
The rumour of him tackling a Marvel movie comes courtesy of British comedian and actor Bob Mortimer (an incredible source for anyone who knows his work), who spoke on The Adam Buxton Podcast (via The Playlist) about his own upcoming projects. He revealed he was set to work with Wheatley on a movie about Michael Jackson's lost glove. Which sounds like exactly the sort of thing Bob Mortimer would claim:
“That was a movie script we were going to do with – I think it was Film4. It’s tricky, but we keep plugging away. We’ve got one in at the moment that nearly got going that we hope we’ll make which is about Michael Jackson. He left a glove, one of his training gloves that he used when he wasn’t on stage, and it’s a very valuable item now, and there’s a few people trying to get ownership of it. It’s just a road movie thing. But we were about to start that, but you know Ben Wheatley? Ben Wheatley got offered one of the big Marvel films, so it wasn’t for us to say, ‘You ain’t doing that, Ben.'”

There's no reason to doubt that at this present moment, and it intriguingly ties in with an older interview with Wheatley that might suggest what sort of direction he's going to go in.
Anyone who has seen his films will know he's a fairly dark film-maker who definitely doesn't fit the whole Disney image of the MCU - he's committed to making unsettling movies and there's just no way he'd ever make anything in that mainline thread. HOWEVER, he could be used to work on a sort of stand-alone (or One Shot feature) that exists outside of the main continuity - though perhaps linked through the multiverse.
And in an interview with Little White Lies, Wheatley has previously said that if he were to make a Marvel movie, he'd want to make one based on the fan-favourite Marvel Zombies comics:
“I don’t really know how those things work. ‘Marvel Zombies’ hasn’t been done which is what I’m interested in. Maybe that’s a bit too niche. Marvel’s interesting in that it’s kind of a hybrid of cinema and television. A very, very expensive TV show that you buy a pass for every three months.”

Horror would be a new approach for Marvel, but a Zombies flick would make an absolute fortune and it would give them an opportunity to have some fun killing off established characters without it really mattering elsewhere. And who wouldn't want to see that?
