Could Mel Gibson Direct The Expendables 3?
It seems the bad-ass action team known as The Expendables are gearing up for their third round of on-screen guns and explosions circle jerk with big names like Jackie Chan, Nicolas Cage and Steven Segal being thrown around as possible new additions to the ever expanding super-cast. One name that hasn't been mentioned lately by anyone in the know yet is the second film's director Simon West. Despite delivering a better movie than Sylvester Stallone did originally, it is now thought that West may not return when The Expendables 3 rolls into production before the end of the year. So if West is out, who's going to be trying to keep all the ego's in check behind the camera? Well one name that Sylvester Stallone has suggested today is none other than police bating, recovering alcoholic Mel Gibson - a man no stranger to big movies and even bigger egos. In a Tweet posted on Sly's official Twitter page he baited fans by first suggesting Gibson as a possible director for the film's potentially never going to be made 5th instalment... Shortly after though he fired back with this: Prior to appearing in the pretty successful Get The Gringo last year and his comeback performance in The Beaver, Gibson has had very limited screen time since his on again off again romance with a bottle of booze caused a colossal fall from grace over a decade ago, a lengthy saga that halted Gibson's exciting career as a director. His epic directorial efforts this Millennium (The Passion Of The Christ and Apocalypto) were praised by critics but sadly he hasn't been able to fund any new movies he has wanted to make in recent years. Could Stallone now bring Gibson back out of the wilderness? The power of the internet casting couch should never be underestimated. In the past internet rumours have lead to some top notch castings, including Mark Wahlberg in Transformers 4. Sure the good old internet doesn't get everything right but it really does have the power to make or break a career. If this all proves to be one big Stallone sized hoax then at least Mel has his big comeback planned in Roberto Rodriguez's Machete Kills, released later this year. For now though we're keen to hear your thoughts on this news. Would you like to see (or not see) Mel Gibson behind the camera calling the shots for The Expendables 3?
