Craig Brewer helming GANG LEADER FOR A DAY

New project from the writer/director of HUSTLE & FLOW and BLACK SNAKE MOAN sounds pretty cool...

With Hustle & Flow and Black Snake Moan, 36 year old director Craig Brewer has proven to be a surprisingly talented and a refreshingly original voice in the industry. Variety say the director has setup at Paramount Vantage an adaptation of Gang Leader For A Day: A Rogue Sociologist Takes to the Streets. It's a non fiction book from a Columbia University professor who spent years researching a crack-dealing gang in Chicago and much like Leonardo DiCaprio in The Departed, he managed to infiltrate himself with a job in a close-knit group he described as having an almost 'successful legitimate business' culture. He was so good at his acting that he was even given the reigns to call the shots in the criminal enterprise for a day.

Michael Caleo a writer on The Soprano's will fittingly adapt the novel. Here's hoping Brewer makes it three for three - though this one sounds his most ambitious project to date. Which is not a bad thing by any means.
