Cronenberg's Scanners also getting the remake treatment!

scanners.jpgAnother of David Cronenberg's classic 80's back catalogue is set to get the remake treatment. Bloody Disgusting are reporting that Dimension Films have sealed a deal to remake the 1981 movie Scanners, with the announcement coming one day after the news of Cronenberg himself revealing that Nicolas Cage wants the lead part of The Fly remake. Saw II, III and the upcoming IV director Darren Lynn Bousman is attached to direct with David Goyer penning the script! This surely, is one of those big projects that Goyer mentioned he had up his sleeve a while back. For those who haven't seen it (and you really should, it's awesome) here is the plot from Bloody Disgusting.... The title of the film refers to a group of people who have telekinetic powers that allow them to read minds and give them the ability to make other people's heads explode. The children of a group of women who took an experimental tranquilizer during their pregnancies, the scanners are now adults and have become outcasts from society. Bousmann will direct Saw IV first this April before moving onto his Rock Opera movie, with production on Scanners set to begin early next year, when Goyer should have the script completed. I love Scanners, it's a great movie and just about the most unique horror movie your ever likely to see. Could a remake work? Probably more so than The Fly as Scanners was really low budget and far from perfect but let's hope this doesn't start a Cronenberg remake trend... please stay away from... Videodrome, The Brood or The Dead Zone. source - bloody disgusting
