Darren Aronofsky & Brad Pitt taming THE TIGER; a Russian JAWS set in snow covered woods?

The on-going saga of just what direction Darren Aronofsky's next career move will take is probably getting somewhat irksome, but at least it's constantly developing. Now, we know the director is talking seriously about stepping in to helm 'Wolverine 2' with his great friend Hugh Jackman at 20th Century Fox in the Spring, and I suspect we'll hear in the next 10 days or so if it's happening. But a potential spanner has firmly been thrown in the works today. The Playlist have spotted an interview with screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga ('Babel') claiming his long-gestated horror/thriller 'The Tiger', a true story about an animal activist who protected a small Siberian town from an enraged tiger in the snowy Russian winter of 1997, is gearing up to shoot next year. The project was originally setup for Darren Aronofsky to helm, and Brad Pitt to produce and potentially star. Based on John Vaillant's forthcoming non-fiction book, the movie would follow a blood-thirsty tiger who developed a vendetta against humans, and I suppose it would be described as 'Jaws' but with an angry tiger. Pitt would play the Roy Scheider role. According to a write-up in The Daily Mail, the tale is particularly gruesome and involves disembowelled and several headless victims of a tiger who was seemingly intelligent, spent days stalking and watching it's pray, and was so feared by the public of this small town that they were afraid to leave their homes. The book is described as a "haunting, gripping exploration of predators and prey, and an intimate portrait of a remarkable animal increasingly threatened by interaction with humans." Arriaga claims shooting locations are being sought in Siberia next month, so if Aronofsky is still serious about directing - he would of course join him. Pitt has been looking to team with Aronofsky ever since they couldn't work out their schedules to make 'The Fountain' together. Given the choice of which I would rather see between Aronofsky helming an unnecessary 'Wolverine' movie, or this insane sounding/real life horror with Brad Pitt vs. a man-eating tiger -- well is it even a choice really, is it? Also, should note: There's been some word about Angelina Jolie's reported attachment to the movie but I actually think it's a lost in translation mistake. She's only mentioned once in the original interview, and she's extremley busy with her directorial debut, so I doubt this will be the re-team of Pitt and Jolie that a certain and very vocal fanbase keep hoping is on the cards.
