Darren Aronofsky close to handsome WOLVERINE 2 payday

After being turned down ten years ago over his franchise reboot pitch for an adaptation of Frank Miller's 'Batman Year One' at Warner Bros, only to then see Chris Nolan go on and do the restart thing and create a billion dollar franchise, and more recently having struggled to convince studios to finance his take on 'Superman' and 'Lone Wolf and Cub' - I guess we can understand Darren Aronofsky's desire to get his hands on 'Wolverine 2', a high-profile comic book property that actually wants him. It's just a shame this series has been served redundant by an awful first picture and of course Matt Vaughan's forthcoming 'X-Men: First Class' reboot, which more and more looks to be the future of these mutated characters. Hey, but at least Aronofsky's earning a big payday, in any effect! Mike Fleming reports that the 'Black Swan' helmer has turned turned down WB's advances for him to direct 'Tales From The Gangster Squad', and that he is now close to agreeing a handsome '$5 million against 5% of gross' deal to helm 'Wolverine 2' in the Spring. From the sounds of things, it's down to crossing the I's and dotting the T's. The movie will see Aronofsky re-team with his good friend Hugh Jackman for the first time since 'The Fountain' four years ago, and that reunion has gotta have played a huge part in Aronofsky taking on this sequel. Let's hope there's things to like in Chris McQuarrie's ('The Usual Suspects', 'X-Men 1 & 2') Japanese set, ninja's and romance drama, but I suppose after fighting over every penny to fund 'Black Swan' and 'The Wrestler', we will give Aronofsky a break over this paycheck.
