Darren Aronosfky helming The Fighter

darren_aronofsky.jpgThe Mark Wahlberg/Matt Damon boxing movie we told you about last month, looks to have found it's director. The Fountain and Reqiuem for a Dream helmer Darren Aronosfky is in final talks for the flick. The movie titled The Fighter, follows the rise of Boston boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward who nabbed the world lightweight title with the help of his once down and out half-brother and trainer. We believe that Wahlberg is set to play the fighter, with Damon playing his half-brother/trainer. Although both actors have yet to sign on the dotted line, it is expected that they are now ready to commit and it could even be their respective next films, with shooting possibly beginning this summer. Using Aronosfky is fine and all because he is uber talented but it's still a risk from Warner Brothers. His only other commercial film The Fountain took years to hit the big screen and when it finally did it made less than $15 million worldwide, even though it was budgeted for $35 million. Of course the movie was also "booed" at Cannes. Not to mention that his directing style is rather unique and wacky, almost (but seriously not on the same level) as Stanley Kubrick who likewise, I couldn't imagine him shooting a boxing drama. source - variety
