David Goyer talks THE INVISIBLE MAN!

June 24th 2007 was the day that David Goyer (The Invisible, Blade Trinity) was announced as the writer/director on a new movie based on H.G. Wells' classic sci-fi novel The Invisible Man at Universal but since then there has been little progress on the movie as Goyer has been busy directing Unborn - his possession horror movie which looks like his version of movies like The Exorcist with the great Gary Oldman starring. Though he has not forgotten his Universal project... He told Shock Till You Drop at the San Diego Comic Con that he is currently scribing the remake and that one of the conceptual artists he has hired for the project also did the same job on both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Goyer also elaborated on the plot, once again insisting the movie is not a remake but instead a sequel to the novel and that several historical figures will show up in the film - most notably William Melville the founder of MI6...

"He instituted fingerprinting and was friends with Harry Houdini. He's were the 'M' comes from in MI6. In my story, he's the one who captures the Invisible Man in my story and says, 'Listen, we want to turn you into a secret agent and send you into Imperial Russia.'"

I have to say, I do really dig the sound of this project. It's refreshing not to have just a standard remake but Goyer is attempting to do more with the character here and take him to a place we haven't seen before. And Goyer's a great writer too, let's not forget. He did a tremendous job with reinventing the Bat character and if he lives up to the cool sounding plot, he might just take another one of the Universal Horror Legends intro the money making franchise that The Mummy has been.
