DC Extended Universe: Ranking Every Upcoming Project By Anticipation
9. Aquaman
Release Date: July 27th, 2018
In the wake of Furious 7's unbelievable success earlier this year, Warner Bros. immediately snatched up director James Wan to direct their solo Aquaman film. Between now and then, though, the character - as played by Game Of Thrones' Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa - will be turning up in next year's Batman V Superman and the first Justice League film in 2017.
Gone are the orange and green colours people have associated with Aquaman for decades, with Warner Bros. and DC clearly trying to wash away the mainstream view of the character as little more than a joke ahead of his big screen debut. His solo film will focus on "the King of the Seven Seas and the reluctant ruler of Atlantis, who is caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, but is committed to protecting the entire globe."
In all regards, those behind the film are dead set on taking the character and his story seriously, with Momoa in particular frequently on record about how excited he is to be a part of the DCEU. If done right, Aquaman could be visually stunning and epic, lifting the character above the mainstream stigma against him from the general public, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that his solo film - and his role in the rest of the DCEU - is knocked out of the park.
