Deadpool: 10 Biggest Questions For The X-Men Universe

6. How Will The Timelines Intersect?

The Question: If it's pretty much accepted that Deadpool will have some sort of interaction with the X-Men in the future, how are the timelines going to intersect, given that the X-Men franchise is currently still stuck in the 1980s? The Likely Answer: It's reasonable to assume that Deadpool is taking place within the "new" X-Men timeline created at the end of Days of Future Past, where for the time being, there's a period of peace and most of the important and iconic characters from the original trilogy have been brought back to life. Deadpool himself asked in his movie, "McAvoy or Stewart?", and it seems overwhelmingly unlikely that we'd get to see Pool interacting with the McAvoy/Fassbender versions of Xavier and Magneto, simply because a) it makes no sense and b) it's not yet known in what capacity the two actors will be returning for future movies. Though Ryan Reynolds has suggested that Deadpool simply exists outside of any one canoncial X-Men timeline, it certainly seems logical that if the X-Men movie following Apocalypse takes place in the present day, then some of these characters will appear in Deadpool 2. This is the easiest way to do it without confusing more mainstream audiences and poisoning the narrative well so to speak. Considering that Days of Future Past just had a huge mess to clean up, it would be sensible to keep things as neat as possible moving forward.
