8. Vanessa

There may be some annoyance that Vanessa is killed off quite so early in Deadpool and only in the service of the main character, but her presence is felt all the way through the film. She's the ghost of Christmas past, present and future all rolled into one who stands in as a sort of Obi Wan-Kenobi figure from beyond the grave.

And even though it's undone at the end (which may not end up being treated as canon), Vanessa's death genuinely does land an emotional blow, which is remarkable given its proximity to so much vulgarity and silliness.

If there's one thing that should last from 'Pool's time travelling at the end of the movie, it should be Vanessa's return for the sequel.
