Deadpool 2: Everything We Know So Far

9. The Release Date

Han Solo
Lucasfilm

Deadpool 2 will launch on the prime summer-blockbuster release date of 1 June 2018, in both the UK and the U.S.

Clearly, the astounding success of the first movie has given the studio a lot of confidence with the sequel, positioning it smack-bang in the middle of a crowded film season, and away from the quiet February release Deadpool enjoyed.

But whether this move will pay off or not remains to be seen. It could be argued that one of the main reasons the original Deadpool performed so well in February was because it had no competition and it was the first big film of the year; advantages the sequel will not have.

The week before Deadpool 2 opens will see the release of Disney's Han Solo standalone (well, we think), and the week after, Paramount will drop Bumblebee, the first in a series of planned Transformers spinoff movies.

Transformers Bumblebee
Paramount Pictures

Deadpool 2 will be rated R which means it won't play to families, so its box-office figures could suffer when surrounded by the competition - lighter fare that appeals to a broader age range. It didn't matter that the first film was rated R because it was an isolated release, hence its financial success.

Either way, next year cannot come soon enough - Deadpool 2 is just one of many, many treats movie fans have to look forward to.
