Deadpool 2 Trailer 3 Reactions: 8 Ups & 3 Downs
5. Staying On Brand
So, back to that point about self-awareness... This trailer is basically a distillation of everything we loved about the first Deadpool, from the humour to the outrageousness and Ryan Reynolds' mischievous shtick, but the best - and most Deadpool-like - element is its self-awareness and willingness to self-parody.
In the space of a couple of moments, we get gags at the expense of X-Force's name (being a "little derivative"), overt mentions of the new group of superheroes needing to have franchise potential for the next 10 to 12 years and a joke at the Deadpool franchise's expense at the end (dealing with the unlikeliness of Disney making a third movie).
In short, this teaser very much shows that despite the success of the first movie and the inevitable pressure to make a more traditional blockbuster to justify the added costs, that's not what's happened here. It's still the same cheeky, charming rogue.
