The draconian MPAA has handed down a rating for Deadpool, and the verdict is... R. Thank heavens for that. Let's be honest, any watered down PG-13 of Deadpool was going to completely miss the point. Luckily, with super-fan Ryan Reynolds on board to steer the project right, we've apparently got the version of Deadpool that we deserve and need right now. The only question now is what rating the BBFC will hand down in the UK, but all signs point to a 15. In regards to their applaudable decision, the MPAA gave their reasoning to be due to "strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity". If you listen closely, you might be able to hear thousands of voices saying "SOLD!" in unison. Fox are to be commended for sticking to their guns on this one and not mis-understanding the character... again. It still defies logic as to why exactly studio heads felt the need to sew Deadpool's mouth shut at the end of the much-maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but hopefully the fact that a faithful-looking, R-rated Deadpool movie now exists is enough to make up for seven years of hurt.
Deadpool is released 4th February in the UK and 16th February in the US.
