Deadpool & Wolverine: 23 Easter Eggs & References Explained
8. Channing Tatum's Gambit
Channing Tatum's cameo as Gambit is a real inside baseball affair, because while many likely took his appearance at mere face value, it's actually a gag that's an entire decade in the making.
Tatum was actually originally cast in a Gambit spin-off movie at Fox way back in May 2014, yet the project failed to gain traction in the years that followed despite considerable fan enthusiasm for Tatum's casting.
In May 2019, as Disney geared up to acquire Fox, the Gambit film was officially cancelled, and it seemed like we'd never get a chance to see Tatum in the role.
But Deadpool and Wolverine provided some glorious wish fulfillment in that regard, even with him rocking a seemingly intentionally terrible Cajun(ish) accent.
Still, when other cameo heroes such as Elektra (Jennifer Garner) and Blade (Wesley Snipes) mention how they've been forgotten, Gambit adds that in his case, he's never even been learned about at all, because of course his movie never got made.
