Del Toro Turning Rodrigo Blass' ALMA Into Feature Film
Some of you may recall watching this little gem of an animated short entitled'Alma', which was the recipient of much acclaim last year. The short was done by Pixar animator Rodrigo Blass ('Finding Nemo', 'UP') and picked up a few awards including the Best Animation award at the LA Shorts Fest as well as Best Andalusion Short at Animacor, which is Spain's international animation festival. According to THR's Heat Vision, 'Alma' made quite the impression on DreamWorks Animation, who are now collaborating with Guillermo del Toro ('Hellboy', 'Pan's Labyrinth') to bring the small piece to the big screen as a feature length film. Del Toro signed a deal with DreamWorks not too long ago and this is one of the first projects that he'll serve on as executive producer and consultant. But the relationship between Guillermo del Toro and animator Rodrigo Blass doesn't just end there. It seems that Blass and del Toro will be working with each other as co-directors on 'Trollhunters', del Toro's first animated feature. If you haven't heard of 'Alma' or just haven't seen the short yet, I suggest you do so now below. It's worth the 5 minutes of your time, and if anything it carries that authentic Pixar quality to it thanks to Blass. ALMA follows "a young girl who gets lured into an enchanted toy store, drawn in by its beautiful collection of dolls, including one that looks just like her."
