Denzel Washington: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Napoleon Stone - Heart Condition

At some point in every serious actor's career, they'll decide to give comedy a try. More often than not, they'll realise it was way more difficult than they gave it credit for, suck at it, and never try again. Or else they're Robert de Niro, and they settle into making endless Meet The Parents sequels at the expense of doing anything interesting. But, hey, he's Robert de Niro €“ he's done enough crazy stuff for his art to earn a break, so stop hassling him, eh? Thankfully Denzel's twilight years look like they're gonna be a bit more interesting, probably because he got the crappy comedy itch scratched pretty thoroughly with 1990's Heart Condition, where he's a ghost that haunts Bob Hoskins. Yes, you read that correctly. Hoskins plays racist cop Jack Moony, and Washington an ambulance chasing lawyer Napoleon Stone. They do not get on. Then one day Moony has a heart attack and Stone gets killed in a drive-by shooting, leading to Moony getting Stone's heart. And, for some reason, his ghost follows him around. We should point out that this is no way medically accurate and being haunted by an organ donor is something that happens, like, 1% of the time. Wacky hijinks ensue, as Hoskins goes about trying to solve the ghost's murder, while the ghost...bothers him. Look, it's got 0% on Rotten Tomatoes and Denzel didn't touch anything with an ounce of comedy until last year's 2 Guns. That's gotta tell you something right? Look upon this trailer and despair.
