Dimension To Remake Korean Hit 'The Man From Nowhere'

Abduction writer to adapt Korea’s highest grossing film of 2010 into a Hollywood blockbuster.

Hollywood has a proud history of taking foreign properties and retooling them for the western market, whether welcomed or not, and now along with Spike Lee€™s Oldboy remake and a remake of action hit The Raid on the way, Dimension films are now getting in on the action with an announcement that they have just secured the rights for the English language remake of Korean smash €˜The Man from Nowhere€™, securing screenwriter Shawn Christensen for writing duties. The original film, written and directed by Lee Jeong-beom, concerned a former black ops agent now working a menial existence as a pawn shop owner, but soon finds himself thrust back into his violent ways after getting involved with some nasty drug dealer types. The Man from Nowhere turned out to be Korea€™s highest grossing film of 2010 trouncing bigger blockbuster types such as Inception and Iron Man 2, so naturally Hollywood want to get to bash out a remake. Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of the Weinstein company states that it€™s a €œslick, fast paced action thriller anchored by a strong emotional relationship that audiences are going to love. We have always been huge action and martial arts fans, and are getting back into the genre in a big way with this.€ Christensen whose last credit was the widely slammed Taylor Lautner vehicle €˜Abduction€™, said €œI€™m excited and honoured to work alongside Bob and the team at Dimension. I€™m a huge fan of the original The Man from Nowhere, and look forward to bringing it to American audiences.€ I still haven€™t seen the original yet but plan to very soon. I€™m always wary, like most of us I€™m sure when Hollywood announces plans to remake a foreign property. Will this be as big a hit as it was in Korea? Well, we€™ll just have to wait and see about that. Somehow I doubt it€ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TB9pbMdtA4&feature=related
