Disappointed By The Star Trek Beyond Trailer? So Was Simon Pegg

"It was surprising."

HeyUGuys caught Simon Pegg on the red carpet for the UK premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and used the opportunity to ask him his opinions on the divisive Star Trek Beyond trailer. As it turns out, he was as nonplussed as the rest of us by the amount of action involved in the trailer, considering that a) he is in the movie and b) he wrote the movie. Check out what he had to say below.
"It was very action packed. I was€it was surprising. I found it to be kind of€the marketing people sort of saying €˜everybody come and see this film, it€™s full of action and fun€™, when there€™s a lot more to it than that. I didn€™t love it, because I know there€™s a lot more to the film. There€™s a lot more story, and a lot more character stuff, and a lot more of what I would call €˜Star Trek stuff.€™ But, you know, they€™ve got to bring a big audience in, they€™ve got to bang the drum. So to Star Trek fans, I€™d say hang in there, be patient."
That is comforting to hear, I must admit. Pegg has always been a straight shooter, and he is a Star Trek fan after all, so I feel like he isn't fronting here; nor would he turn in a script that didn't live up to his own standards and expectations for the franchise. As he says, the marketing department have to go after the larger demographic, and it was an extremely short teaser - stands to reason that it was front-loaded with action and spectacle. We'll see if our patience pays off when Star Trek Beyond is released on 22 July 2016.
