Disney's Fox Deal - 10 Properties That Will Be Selling Points For Disney+
8. Critically-Acclaimed FX Productions
It is HBO who get the majority of the credit for the huge upswing in the quality of American television, with shows like The Sopranos, The Wire and Game Of Thrones all sitting highly in ‘best of’ lists. AMC and Showtime have also made sizable contributions (the former being the home of Mad Men and Breaking Bad), but FX also deserve some recognition.
Whilst the main Fox TV network, their multiple forays into the world of sport and their often controversial news channel will remain within Rupert Murdoch’s empire, the FX collection of channels are part of the deal with Disney and will allow them to supplement their ownership of ABC, Freeform and the Disney Channel with a more ‘upmarket’ offering.
It also gives them full ownership of a number of ground-breaking series to populate Disney+ with. These include critically acclaimed gems such as brutal cop show The Shield, family/motorcycle gang drama Sons Of Anarchy, modern day western Justified and the slow building Soviet sleeper agent focused The Americans.
Not just a home of drama, FX has also hosted comedic masterpieces such as Archer, Atlanta and Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia throughout its twenty five year existence. The latter will become the longest-running live action sitcom in American history once it completes its thirteenth and fourteenth seasons and should excellently complement other offerings that Disney can already provide.
