Yorgos Lanthimos' Bugonia was only ever going to end one of two ways - pharma CEO Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone) is revealed to be an alien just as conspiracy theorist Teddy Gatz (Jesse Plemons) believed, or she isn't.

And ultimately, it turns out that Teddy was correct - after his suicide vest explodes and kills him, Michelle enters a closet and transports to the Andromedan mothership, revealing her to be the aliens' emperor.

She then consults with her fellow Andromedans before deciding that the "human experiment" has failed, prompting her to pop a bubble-like dome of Earth, resulting in every single person on Earth instantly dying. The End.

There are many who took umbrage with Teddy's apparent delusions being proven correct, feeling that in an era where conspiracy theorists have more reach and influence than ever, this was a dangerous message to send.

Others, however, embraced the darkly absurd nature of the ending, all the way up to that glorious closing montage showing the end of all human life.
