D.J. Caruso holds THOR talks with Marvel

DISTURBIA director interested in jumping in Matt Vaughn's grave!

Matt here€ Marvel had such a worry over Matthew Vaughn after Stardust BOMBED in the U.S, they failed to give him the greenlight on the epic blockbuster movie Thor (he would have been directing that right now if things had gone to plan) and also wouldn't stump up the cash to finance the adaptation of their own property Kick-Ass, written by Mark Millar. Instead, Vaughn is having to finance the $80 million picture all himself with the help of his friends in the hope that a studio will pick it up and he can make his money back. But what happens to Thor in the mean time, a character Marvel wanted to be part of The Avengers team-up in 3-4 years time? Well today it seems Marvel are still flirting with the project and we may know who is ready to jump into Vaughn's Thor grave! IESB have picked up a great scope that D.J. Caruso, the director of Disturbia and the upcoming Eagle Eye... who we believe was offered Wolverine but turned it down (it went to Gavin Hood) wants to have a crack at it.

You know...I would definitely tackle it and I sort of wrestled with it before and I was always a fan of Thor growing up as a kid. I know that they have a script, but there's something, there's a fear I have about Thor and depending on what Thor story you want to tell, whether you want to bring Thor into the modern world or if you want to go back to Asgard and get the history of what's happening between him and his brother and dad. That's one I've always been interested in and it also would be, it would be a monumental task so, I could definitely see myself getting myself into that. I have had some talks with Marvel about it but I have not seen a screenplay. It could be something that I am interested in.
The last screenplay we were made aware of was the one by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Poseidon) which would not be cheap to finance. Would Marvel be less fearing of letting Caruso run wild with the project than they were with Vaughn? Caruso, who is most certainly a comic book fan, also has the adaptation of the popular series Y: The Last Man in the early development stages, likely to end up with Shia LaBeouf starring. Discuss: Is the guy who helmed Disturbia really the right man for a Thor adaptation or are we still pissed that Vaughn didn't get to make his version? Would you rather see Caruso next helm Thor or Y: The Last Man?
