Django Unchained Trailer: Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Vengeance
The first full-length trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film, "Django Unchained", has arrived.
The first full-length trailer for Quentin Tarantinos eighth film, "Django Unchained", has arrived, and looks to be another great effort from the eccentric writer-director. Set in the Deep South, the film follows former slave Django (Jamie Foxx) after he is freed by a former dentist turned German bounty hunter, Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) in order to help catch the notorious Brittle Brothers. In return, Schultz promises to help Django find his wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), who is in the hands of sadistic plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). From this trailer, the footage looks beautiful, following very much in the style of the Coen brothers "True Grit", but the tone is definitely pure Tarantino, with Django particularly benefiting from the directors trademark dialogue. The score seems to be in keeping with QTs love of using contemporary music, with Johnny Cash popping up immediately, but, as with Inglorious Basterds, the usage fits pretty much seamlessly. http://youtu.be/eUdM9vrCbow While it may have been interesting to see Will Smith in the lead role, Foxx looks very comfortable in the part, while Waltz and DiCaprio seem to be having a lot of fun. The focus of this trailer remains very much on Django and Schultzs partnership, although this means that there is no sign of Samuel L Jackson, and Kerry Washington is glimpsed only in passing. The film looks unlikely to convert anyone who isnt already a Tarantino fan, but those that are should rest assured that the director seems to be on his usual form. The trailer also helps to assuage potential fears that the 168-page script was overlong, although it remains to be seen how it has changed in its translation to the screen; the divisive on-set addition of the machine-gunning of Hitlers face in the denouement of Inglorious Basterds still prevalent in this writers mind. The film also features Laura Cayouette, Gerald McRaney, James Remar, MC Gainey, Walton Goggins, Don Johnson, Tom Savini and Franco Nero. Django Unchained will be released on December 25th.
