Do We Really Need A Justice League Movie?

Jumping into the "Justice League" movie itself, the tone I€™d like to see isn€™t costumes vs. hordes of faceless drones. "The Avengers" just about pulled that off (thanks largely to the Hulk) but that€™s far too generic to carry any weight. I€™d like to see the human response to Superman and there to be an almost split vote on if the world would still want him around, given the devastation caused in "Man of Steel" (here€™s hoping). I€™d then like to see some sort of shattering event that as an the obvious choice is caused by Darkseid but I€™d like to see the big guy held back for sequel, if I'm honest. So maybe use Lex Luthor and possibly a few side characters like Metallo and maybe Parasite. Having the human Lex Luthor trying to take out alien Superman adds to the theme of human vs. heroes and with Metallo and Parasite beating on Superman it only seems right that the other heroes arrive on the scene to help him, backing Superman€™s cause and what he fights for and showing the world the age of heroes has truly arrived. Of course this is all off of the top of my head, I€™ve not written a screenplay or anything (I can do if you need me to though Warner Bros. Reach me at Whatculture.com) but I€™d much prefer to see Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern and Batman join together to fight because they felt they had to rather than assemble after bickering and getting to know each other though clashes of ego (which is more of a pop at the recent DC 52 Justice League than at the Avengers movie €“ honest). I€™d love to see these relationships grow as the story escalated into bigger events as the movie progressed, I€™d love to get the feeling that the Justice League could only win this as a team and that the dawn of the DC heroes movie franchise truly started here. I€™d love all this stuff to be treated with a sense of drama with the stakes feeling more in tune with an unpredictable thriller than that of a no surprises action movie. Now, I won€™t get into casting because that isn€™t what this article is about but whoever is picked needs to bring their A-game. To believe in the Justice League this stuff has to be taken seriously. If Superman is in trouble, I don€™t need The Flash to crack a funny line, I need The Flash to worry. Of course the character traits we love can shine through but if DC want to make a real film about superheroes, or indeed Gods as DC Comics like to refer to their heroes as from time to time, whoever they get to write and direct this needs to treat it properly. The other thing with Justice League is that you don€™t need to go much further than The Justice League animated series to find the perfect balance. That show, especially Season 2 onwards, knew how to make you get behind Superman at the right time. It knew when Batman would find this team stuff outside of his interests and they knew how to handle Wonder Woman. Hell, if they announced the team behind the Justice League animated series wrote the film, it would be a real reason to back this flick. Oh and while we€™re on the subject of Diana, if Warner Bros. have any sense, they€™ll ditch all these attempts to make a "Wonder Woman" movie pre-"Justice League" while arguing about bikinis and trousers. Introduce her into the thick of it. Show how bad ass this character is. Show the warrior Amazonian handling stuff when the heroes we expect to can€™t. Make her stand toe to toe with Superman and Batman. Make the costume part of who she is and don€™t give the audience a chance to question its merits. It€™s who she is and what she€™s worn forever. Tell us why and why it€™s important to her. It worked in Captain America and that costume is ridiculous. Essentially, make the audience want more Wonder Woman post Justice League. It worked for the best element of the Avengers movie (the Hulk and you know it), so do the same sort of thing with Wonder Woman and it€™ll make her a character's audience want more.
