Doctor Sleep Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

Downs...

3. It's WAY Too Long

Does it feel like a disproportionate number of major Hollywood movies are releasing with indecent, undisciplined runtimes lately?

Following the recent 169-minute endurance trial that was It Chapter Two, Doctor Sleep clocks in at a beefy 152 minutes, and the movie's excessive length is likely to be the most common complaint from both critics and casual viewers alike.

Though Flanagan does a remarkable job keeping the audience invested, he doesn't quite earn all of those 2.5 hours. There are a number of protracted scenes which could've either been whittled down in editing or, better still, deleted entirely.

This feels like a home video Extended Cut which, semi-admirably, Warner Bros. actually allowed to be released in cinemas. But as a result, you might feel slightly tired and weary by the time it's all over.
