Doctor Strange: 22 Secrets Revealed By The Director's Commentary
4. Who Came Up With The Reversed Time Loop Motif
When Strange first "dies" at Dormammu's hand, the idea to play the scene in reverse to sell the idea of a time loop wasn't actually Derrickson's idea and it wasn't in the script. he says it came from one of the film's editors - a role you'd usually imagine as taking things out rather than being that creative.
3. James Gunn Shot Stan Lee's Cameo
Derrickson says he loves Stan Lee's cameo, but confirms that he didn't actually shoot it, which should come as something of a surprise. Instead, that duty fell to James Gunn, who filmed it during the production of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2, along with three others - for Guardians itself, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok.
And the director also confirms that he didn't film the mid-credits scene with Thor and Doctor Strange together - that fell to Taika Waititi. It must be strange to see other people's work in a project so personal, but the seams don't actually show.
