Doctor Strange: 22 Secrets Revealed By The Director's Commentary

10. The Crimson Bands

Fans could have been forgiven for thinking that the iconic Crimson Bands Of Cyttorak were spotted in the film at various times when Strange does his magic against Kaecilius and his underlings, though obviously they aren't named. It turns out that that's a wrong assumption, as Derrickson confirms that the weird metal contraption Strange uses to restrain Kaecilius is actually his version of the Bands.

Unfortunately, an edit meant we didn't get to find that out in the film as “We just took the name out as we edited the scene down.”

9. They Almost Used Nightmare

Rather than going with Dormammu and Kaecilius, Derrickson says they did entertain the idea of using iconic villain Nightmare as the main big bad, but that time was not on their side. He says it "would have taken too much time to develop him" and that he wanted a two and a half hour run-time and using Nightmare would have stretched the film too far.

Another character could have appeared too - important comic book character Clea (who, along with Nightmare is said to be coming in the sequel). Derrickson acknowledges she's "critical" in the comics but that they simply didn't have the time to introduce her.
