Doctor Strange: 25 WTF Moments
15. Sorcerors Only Bother With Metaphysical Threats (Except Loki)
As if answering everyone's questions about why the Sorcerors didn't deem it appropriate to help out when the world was under threat in either Avengers film, Wong says that the Avengers deal with real world threats and the Sorcerors are only concerned with meta-physical ones. Surely some cross-communication would be valuable, since any physical threat that succeeded would ruin their day just as badly as everyone else's?
Anyway, Strange accepts that, and everyone gets on with their duties wondering about what the multiverse will throw at them.
But there are two problems with this: firstly, the Infinity Stones are in fact metaphysical threats just as much as they are physical. The Tesseract is an inter-dimensional portal device, the Ant-man suit possesses the power to jump into the Quantum Realm... It's not like these are purely physical threats.
And then at the end of the movie, Strange calls Thor in for a meeting to ask why he's brought Loki to London, saying he's on his watch-list for threats to Earth. If he's classed as a meta-physical threat now, why the hell wasn't he when he was leading an actual invasion of New York using an Infinity Stone?!
