Doctor Strange: 25 WTF Moments
9. Why Does She Fall For Him Again?!
The prologue of the movie sees the relationship between Strange and Christine Palmer explored in a way that makes it very clear that they were once a thing but he messed it up by being an insufferable, arrogant piece of sh*t with little regard for anyone but himself. She makes it pretty clear that she's moved on, even as he tries to stoke the fires of their possible romance. It's over. Move on.
But then fast forward to Strange's reappearance in her life and suddenly she's all-too-willing to accept that he's now a viable romantic option. Nice little wrapped up arc, as her seeing him in the best light suggests he really has changed. Except it makes no sense.
First off, he hasn't changed, because he's still not fully able to do great magic precisely because he hasn't changed until he sacrifices himself to Dormammu to save Earth. That's pretty key.
And then, you have to consider the context from her point of view: Strange disappears a douchebag having shouted at her, and then mysteriously turns up after months (in her own words), wearing mystical robes and crucially being a ghost, and suddenly she can't resist him. Surely this new erratic behaviour should have been an indicator that he's even less of a dependable guy?! Maybe she just really digs his beard?
