Doctor Strange: 25 WTF Moments

3. The Odd Rules Of Time Travel

Doctor Strange WTF
Marvel

It's always the case with time travel Mcguffins in movies that any picking at the narrative mechanic will probably result in plot holes tearing open, unless the writing accounts for them by adding extremely strict rules. That is not the case in Doctor Strange, where the precise powers of the Time Stone are not actually stated.

We know that it's possible to create a time loop, because Strange does so. We know that it's possible to do a Cher and turn back time, because Strange does so. We also know it's possible to pull others "outside of time" using the Eye Of Agamotto, because - you guessed it - Strange does so. But at no point is it established how far he can go back in time.

So why doesn't he just go back to before when Kaecilius steals the pages? Or before he kills the Masters and the Sanctums fall? They might be rubbish characters, but didn't they deserve to live just as much as Wong?
