Doctor Strange 3: 10 Characters Who Could Be The Main Villain

WHERE. IS. MEPHISTO?

Doctor Strange Mephisto
Disney/Marvel Comics

Doctor Strange has faced many arduous adversaries in the MCU, including Kaecilius, Dormammu, Thanos, Shuma Gorath, Scarlet Witch, and a variant of himself. (He also fought Spider-Man. And lost. Because math.) But being the Master of the Mystic Arts, Strange has emerged triumphant time and time again.

As we all know, the work of the Sorcerer Supreme is never done. Technically, Wong is the Sorcerer Supreme, but you know what I mean. While reality itself was under threat in the most recent Doctor Strange instalment, the ending implied a greater danger was looming on the horizon.

Although casual fans will struggle to conceive of a nemesis more dangerous than a reality-warping witch or a Mad Titan, comic readers know the goateed wizard has encountered enemies that jeopardise, not just the world, but the entire multiverse.

Over the years, he's gone head-to-head with immortal gods, deities unbound by reality, entities who can disable magic, and cosmic beings who can reshape existence itself. If Stephen Strange battles any of the villains on this list in the next inevitable sequel, it's very possible the good doctor has finally met his match.

10. Lilith

Doctor Strange Mephisto
Marvel Comics

Lilith's origins have always been shrouded in mystery. She has been labelled as a fallen angel, a Mesoptomian goddess, the first wife of Adam, and the lover of Satan. Her true identity may be called into question but her power is not.

Not only does the Queen of Evil have all the magical powers you'd expect, her true strength lies in her ability to turn anyone into a demon called a Lilin. She can also give birth to Lilins through natural conception or conjure them into being through pure willpower. No matter how gravely injured Lilith is, the Mother of Demons can replenish her health by absorbing the life force of her spawn. Since she has produced countless Lilins throughout multiple realities, she can feed off them forever, rendering her immortal.

Being a paranormal entity, Lilith regularly fights supernatural superheroes like Ghost Rider, Blade, and of course, Doctor Strange. Because of this, incorporating her into the next Doctor Strange would be a nice excuse to implement the mystic superteam - The Midnight Sons. If Marvel Studios went down this route, they could introduce or re-integrate many key characters, including Moon Knight, Helstrom, Magik, Werewolf by Midnight, Shaman, and Brother Voodoo.
