9. The Stephen Strange Name-Drop

Let's get the biggest and most obvious example of Doctor Strange foreshadowing out of the way first - the powerful sorcerer was actually name-dropped by S.H.I.E.L.D./HYDRA agent Jasper Sitwell in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It happened when Sitwell was being interrogated by the heroic trio of Captain America, Black Widow and Falcon about HYDRA's plans for Zola's algorithm and Project Insight - an operation that would see threats eliminated before they actually opposed HYDRA directly. Sitwell listed a number of characters who would be targeted in the operation - and they included the likes of Bruce Banner, Tony Stark and indeed Stephen Strange. It was the first time audiences knew for certain that Strange existed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the moment at which excitement about his arrival became tangible amongst his fans.
