Doctor Strange: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
1. Doctor Strange
You don't know how close a Cloak came to topping this list, but ultimately the eternal power that is the Cumberbatch shone through.
Sometimes when an actor is identified as perfect for a role it doesn't quite pan out as you'd hope, but Benedict Cumberbatch is as perfect as Doctor Strange as he is as Sherlock. That's no mean feat considering they exist on different ends of the same spectrum, but it's very clear that the experience of being Baker Street's most famous resident has rubbed off on his Strange ways.
His Strange is initially an aloof, distinctly unlikeable Tony Stark clone with elements of House and Sherlock bundled in (but also an intoxicating charm that keeps him just the right side of irredeemable), and he takes a while to shed that, growing into his role as the Sorceror Supreme as he drops his former title of Surgeon Supreme. And while there's some insistence in there concerning the dangers of ego, it never comes across as a PSA, because there's enough humour and the charm continues to shine through.
Thankfully, the final credits end with a slate confirming that Doctor Strange will return, and on the back of this appearance, that is absolutely the best news possible.
