Doctor Strange Review: 8 Ups & 5 Downs
3. The Implied Thor/Strange Team-Up
The mid-credits sequence features Doctor Strange entertaining Thor within the Sanctum in New York, as the pair swap pleasantries and Strange conjures the Asgardian some beer. Strange reveals he's already assuming his new role as protector, ironically setting up a watchlist of interesting parties and threats (the same kind of list he was on himself in The Winter Soldier) including Loki.
Clearly, something pinged on his surveillance "equipment" as Loki's presence in London with Thor (to find their father) instigated his meeting with Thor, and rather wonderfully, there's a big hint that we will see Strange in Thor: Ragnarok now.
He agrees to help Thor and Loki locate Odin (which is odd considering Thor so far thinks his brother is dead and his father is on the throne in Asgard). Perhaps this is actually a scene from Ragnarok, the same way Ant-Man's post-credit scene was lifted out of Civil War?
Whatever the case, the prospect of seeing Thor and Strange working together is great; they're basically mirror images of one another, both are the most magical MCU figures and both have an inherent theatricality. Adding Strange to the Ragnarok mix, even briefly, is a lovely decision.
