Clearly it's Strange tumbling through the gaps in the multiverse that convinces him to become a disciple of The Ancient One.

That is in contrast to the comics, which sees The Ancient One insist that he becomes a student in return for being freed from Baron Mordo's restraining spells. It's interesting that the trailer so far has mostly swayed towards reality manipulation as opposed to magic: will we actually get to see more conventional spells in the final film?

Without wanting to hammer home the point too much, that "teach me" is also very Matrix-like as well.
