It's finally happened: Donald Glover is going to be in a live-action Spider-Man movie!

However, in a case of good news/bad news, it's highly unlikely he'll be playing an actual web-slinger.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Glover has boarded the film in a mystery role, making it the second time he'll have appeared in a Spider-Man adaptation, and bringing full-circle (almost) the campaign for the actor to actually be Spidey himself.

Back in 2010, when Sony announced The Amazing Spider-Man, a fan campaign was launched to have the (then) Community star cast in the main role, which really took off when Glover himself commented about it on Twitter, saying he'd love to be Spider-Man.

The campaign garnered a lot of support, however Glover was never auditioned for the role, which ended up going to Andrew Garfield. He did get to play Spider-Man later though, voicing new Spidey Miles Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series.

Given Tom Holland is in the title role in Homecoming, and still in high-school, it seems rather unlikely that they'd introduce Morales in the films at this point, so it's probably best not to get hopes up for that happening - although #donald4spiderman folk no doubt will be (and in fairness, he would be awesome).

With the film shaping up to have a more comedic tone, with Jon Watt directing and a script from John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, and Glover's casting - whomever he ends up playing - fits right in with that.
