Eric Cowie was as close as it came to having a 'good guy' in the hit Netflix documentary, proving to be an honest working class guy who honestly cared for the animals in his care. In fact when real life events of the show started moving toward murder conspiracies, election campaigns and polygamy, it was Eric who kept reminding us of the plight of the animals.

While his penchant for the long unwashed hair look is a contributing reason for this choice, it is Rourke's ability to bring to life the emotional journey of Cowie that makes him our choice. Anyone who has seen Rourke's performance in The Wrestler can testify to the actor's ability to bring real pathos in an understated role, his nomination for a Best Acting Oscar proving fully deserved.

Mickey Rourke is getting a little older these days, so seeing Joaquin Phoenix go full bore into a role once more would be another great option. He has more than shown his ability to play a variety of downtrodden souls, and like all his roles he would no doubt give a wonderful and enigmatic portrayal of the Zookeeper.
