Drew Barrymore: 5 Awesome Performance And 5 That Sucked

2. Julia Sullivan - The Wedding Singer (1998)

For most movie fans the name Drew Barrymore is synonymous with the rom-com - by far the most commonly featured genre in her filmography, it's something the former child star has mastered in her adult life. The Wedding Singer might be a little too sickly sweet for some audiences, but for many its combination of 80s pop culture references and fondness for its characters makes it hard to not love. A reminder that Adam Sandler used to make popular comedies without feeling the need to recourse to poo jokes and bigoted slurs, it's also a showcase for Barrymore at her most charming and ebullient. Barrymore has always had the potential for a thoroughly appealing sense of wide-eyed cuteness blended with a sassy undertone, and in The Wedding Singer this appeal plays off perfectly against Sandler's well-meaning shtick - as we'll see, it's a shame they couldn't replicate this further into their careers.
